Campaigns and Research

CARIS Families is committed to using its frontline findings to raise awareness of the injustice of childhoods spent in temporary accommodation.  Our Director and Housing Rights Manager regularly share our data and case studies with campaigning charities and research institutes to evidence the damaging impacts of protracted stays in such insecure, inadequate accommodation and to justify recommendations for policy reform.  Whenever appropriate, we support interested families to directly share their experiences with these campaigns.

Since 2024 we have sat on the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Households in Temporary Accommodation, giving evidence as part of the professionals’ panel at the Scrutiny Committee’s inquiry into the experiences of Children in Temporary Accommodation in Parliament in 2025.  We have also submitted evidence in recent years to reports by Sensory Lives (KCL, Shared Health Foundation, Justlife and Autistica), End Furniture Poverty, Shelter, the CHAMPIONS Project (UCL), the Oak Foundation and Trust for London.

At a local level, we work with councillors and local authority housing departments to support best practice in their temporary accommodation hostels and with partner organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Housing, Shelter and JustLife to share findings and undertake practical advocacy.
